There was an instance where Sabalenka talked about her father and also detailed how she is quite similar to her father in terms of her athletic personality. She stated, “My dad, he was a hockey player. He was an aggressive player like me. He wanted me just to be the best, but there is a lot of expectation.”

Along with that, Aryna Sabalenka also highlighted her dream of winning a Grand Slam title that she shared with her father. “But it was our dream with my dad to win a Grand Slam, and he thought that I will win before 25,” she added. She understood the fact that her performance in the Grand Slam events of 2023 could either make or break her father’s dream. Consequently, she gave her 100% and grabbed the first major tournament title of the year.

Sabalenka’s another combined dream with her father

Apart from winning a Grand Slam title, there was one more thing that the father-daughter duo wanted to achieve on the tennis court. While Sabalenka was fighting for the world’s number one position, last year she revealed how she wanted to achieve that feat for her father.

In a candidate interview, she highlighted, “I’m just trying to fight because my dad wanted me to be No.1. I’m doing it for him so that’s what is helping me to be strong right now.” Well, just a few months after the statement in September, she suppressed Iga Swiatek and became WTA player number 1 for the first time in her tennis career, fulfilling her father’s wish.
