“I figured I was destined to have girls,” Alexis Ohanian said on the November 21 episode of his ‘Business Dad’ podcast, whilst also stating how awesome it was. Ohanian and Serena Williams won’t stop encouraging their kids’ interests anytime soon. Take their older daughter, Olympia, for instance. From soccer to golf and tennis, she has experimented with several sports and also likes dancing. But Ohanian refuses to let his kid’s abilities be limited to extracurricular activities.

Let us not forget he is a tech entrepreneur and so, he would want his daughters to be tech-savvy, right? In 2020, he stated, “…if we look at the platforms and specifically in technology and in social media that have shaped so much of how we live, how we work, how we play, how we get informed, everything…”

Ohanian’s interest in tech began when he was just a kid who used a dial-up modem to build a website on Geocities. He felt like a superhero. “I was this dork who would build websites for nonprofits. It was very empowering.” But he also wasn’t a professional software engineer. He started Reddit from his college dorm with his college friend Steve Huffman in 2005. By then, his experience with tech made him feel so powerful that he wanted his children to experience the same.

And in the latest update, the father of two has pledged to teach his kids the basics of technology. On December 2, Ohanian shared a social media post by content creator Daniel Jeong Soo. The post stated, “As a kid, I fixed my parent’s computer. As an adult, I fix my kid’s computer. Pretty sure we are the only generation that knows how a computer works,” with a caption, “Also, the number of people who say they can type but can’t is way too high.”

Resharing the post on his IG story, Ohanian wrote, “I feel this. But I’ll make sure my girls know…

In October, Ohanian used AI to increase his 7-year-old daughter, Olympia’s knowledge. He shared on X how he tailored math problems to her interests. “I started using AI to help write extra math problems for Jr that are all designed around her interests. So far so good,” he noted, adding star names like Beyonce and Taylor Swift into the mix to capture Olympia’s imagination. This isn’t the first time Ohanian has creatively utilized AI.

Last year, Ohanian tapped into the power of AI to generate creative images of Williams as different athletes, ranging from an F1 driver to a martial artist. He humorously teased Lewis Hamilton on X, saying, “OK! You asked me for more AI-generated Multiverse-Serenas, so here are some more… F1-Serena is coming for you @LewisHamilton.”

That being said, it looks like Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian’s kids will have the best of both worlds. “AI will change the way we consume content. But with sports, we will ALWAYS find a way back to our humanity,” remarked Ohanian four months ago. He has started to live by those words now!

Will Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian’s daughters build a career in sports?

Well, in a 2018 interview, Serena Williams was asked if Olympia would follow in her footsteps when she grew up. Surprisingly, at that time, the tennis star had replied, “I would hope she doesn’t play tennis. It’s a lot of work. A lot. Plus, I don’t want her to have pressure from what I did, people talking about ‘are you going to be able to do as good as your mom?’. I don’t want her to have that.

However, Alexis Ohanian recently shared a story where Williams expressed a powerful opinion about their daughters’ involvement in sports.

Explaining that moment, Ohanian said, “We were watching the final of the World Cup in 2019 from our rented house in Wimbledon. Olympia was running around in her Alex Morgan jersey, and I said, ‘Wouldn’t it be great if she played on a national team one day?’ And Serena was like, ‘Not until they pay her what she’s worth.’ And I was like, ‘Touché, okay, challenge accepted.’ And that’s what motivated me to buy a team and help be a part of the change.

If you are a Williams-Ohanian fan, you would already know that their daughters have a stake in his $250 million worth women’s football club. In June last year, Serena Williams‘ husband announced his daughter’s ownership in the Angel City FC by stating, “Announcing my fellow co-owner of @wearelagc… @olympiaohanian! Olympia is the youngest owner in professional sports (@weareangelcity) and is now the youngest 2-team owner in professional sports. She’ll be joined by her future sibling.

Fun fact: A group including Hollywood actor Natalie Portman and venture capitalists Kara Nortman and Alexis Ohanian founded Angel City FC in 2020. In August this year, Bob Iger and Willow Bay completed the $250 million purchase of a controlling stake in Angel City FC, making it the most expensive takeover in women’s professional sports history.
