In 2020, Spanish tennis player Carla Suarez Navarro retired from tennis. All of her fans were sad about this news, but what made them even sadder was the news that she revealed afterward. Navarro announced that she had been diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma and she has been recovering ever since. During this time, she has gotten a visit from one of her best friends – Garbine Muguruza.

Garbine Muguruza On Carla Suarez Navarro’s Diagnosis
Muguruza found about Carla’s diagnosis a few days earlier before she officially announced it to the world. And when she found out, she was stunned.
“When we spoke a few days ago when she gave me the news, I was, I think, shocked because I was expecting to see her in this tournament…You know, she’s such a nice woman, so sweet, so kind, so humble. When these things happen to these good people, I feel, like, so sad about it.” she said.

Since this diagnosis came right before the US Open, Garbine dedicated her first-round win to Navarro. She did this to give Carla her whole-hearted support in these trying times.

While it was great that Garbine dedicated her first-round win to Navarro, she was unable to go far in the tournament. In the second round, she faced Tsvetana Pironkova, who beat her in three sets.

Moving onto the French Open, she was upset in the third round by Danielle Collins. This was definitely disappointing for Muguruza, as she was once the champion there. She will definitely be working to win Slams in 2021, and Navarro will be backing her the whole way.
