Canada’s Bianca Andreescu has withdrawn from the Grampians trophy. The former World No.4 has been out of touch with competitive matches for more than a year. So, a warm-up tournament could’ve been good preparation for the Canadian’s aspirations at the Australian Open 2021. But the 20-year-old and her team are feeling good training in Melbourne and will continue to do so for the next week.

In her official statement, the 2019 US Open champion stated that her decision to withdraw is primarily to train harder.

“Following the two weeks in quarantine, it feels so good to finally be back on the court,” Bianca wrote. “After discussing it with my team, we have decided to focus this week on training for the Australian Open and miss the Grampians.”

Bianca even expressed gratitude to Tennis Australia for organizing the event. She will make her comeback at the prestigious Australian Open 2021.

“Many thanks to Tennis Australia and WTA for their hard work in providing us all of these choices. See you at the Australian Open,” she concluded her statement.

The Canadian had chosen WTA 500 Melbourne 3 as the tournament of her return. But, after training in Melbourne Park, she has decided to continue training only.

Also, the withdrawal gives Greek professional Maria Sakkari a bye and she moves into Line 1. And Georgian professional Oksana Kalashnikova gets a place in the draw.

The tennis world has been eagerly awaiting the Australian Open this year. With Bianca Andreescu gearing up for her preparations, we are sure to see many explosive matches at the Major.

In other tournaments in Australia, top players are making a statement with their tennis. While some are still adjusting to the repercussions of the quarantine, some just started with a bang. Therefore, it is fair to assume that the Australian Summer will bring us a great many tennis matches.
