Her run in the Miami Masters in 2025 seemed to suggest that Emma Raducanu had gotten her confidence back. In fact, after her straight-sets win in the fourth round against Amanda Anisimova, the Brit spoke about the competitive spirit she found again. “I think when I’m being really authentic, that’s when I’m playing my best,” said a confident Raducanu. And through the rest of the year, we have seen the resurgence of the Brit, something that had been missing since her 2021 US Open win.

After winning her only major, she fell off the radar, with injury and off-court distractions seeing her tennis results plummet. Coincidentally, Bianca Andreescu has been on an almost similar trajectory: her high of her US Open win in 2019 followed by injury-riddled seasons that have seen her skip Grand Slams and barely make it beyond the initial rounds. Like Raducanu, she is trying to make a steady return to the top. The Canadian has been playing in the Doubles event at the 2025 Wuhan Open, and the 25-year-old opened up about the challenges she has faced.
Speaking to Tennis365, Bianca Andreescu revealed, “I definitely feel I could have done with a little more guidance after (US Open win) and maybe I would have done things a little differently.” The challenge of being a 19-year-old Grand Slam champion is that the stardom brings the media attention, the sponsorship deals, the lucrative paid endorsements that can be distracting and disrupting to a fledgling career.

And with the WTA field being deep and competitive, you can very easily go from being a Grand Slam champion to being out of the top 50 or even top 100. Reaching World No. 4 in October 2019, Bianca Andreescu is now World No. 177. Emma Raducanu had experienced a similar drop-off. Reaching a career high of World No. 10 in July 2022, the Brit went as low as 289 in November 2023.
In fact, Andreescu even said Raducanu has it harder than herself. “Coming from Britain, she’s definitely had it tougher than me,” the Canadian said. “The fame, the pressure from sponsors… that must have been a lot of pressure.” Bianca Andreescu is not wrong. This aspect Raducanu had to address to bring the focus back on her career.

“Especially straight after I did really well, for the next few years it was very much like there was so much communication about things off the court,” Emma Raducanu told The Independent in December 2024. “I just think that I wasn’t prepared as well for the other things that inevitably do take some energy out of you. I think now I’m a lot more structured. I’ll be like: ‘OK, I have this time where one hour we will talk about business. And now I’m going to go train for the rest of the week.’”
Whatever she has done, Raducanu has been able to turn a corner. Still not hitting the 2021 US Open levels, but we have seen glimpses of her previous brilliance.
Emma Raducanu’s 2025 motivates Bianca Andreescu
In the exclusive interview with Tennis365, Andreescu mentioned her happiness at seeing Raducanu doing well. “It’s great to see Emma coming back to the top and she is playing some great tennis at the moment. She was close to beating Pegula last week, so that shows the level she is playing at.” Jessica Pegula is currently World No. 6. Raducanu gave it a go before going down in three sets in the R32 match of the China Open.
The good thing is that the Brit has been consistently participating in the WTA Tour events, and has reached at least the R32 since the Roland Garros exit in May 2025 to World No. 5 Iga Swiatek in the R64. It was unfortunate Raducanu had to retire from the first round at the Wuhan Open, the sweltering heat leaving her dizzy and in unstable condition. Nonetheless, she has been playing some of her best tennis on tour this season, with the injury at Wuhan being her only significant injury concern all year.

Currently World No. 30, her next goal is to get seeded at the 2026 Australian Open. “Being seeded for Australia is a big target for me over the next few weeks,” Emma Raducanu said to Tennis365 on October 7. “I think the higher you can go, the better it is, but it is still down to the luck of the draw. I’ve just been happy with the improvements in the last few weeks I’ve made in my game, and I just want to keep going with that.”
With that seeded spot within grasp, it all depends on how quickly she can bounce back from injury. Her serve has seen a marked improvement, and working with Francisco Roig, the Spaniard who has coached Rafael Nadal, the upward trajectory may yet continue.
