Along with her on-court achievements, she also fought against social issues prevalent in society. She raised her voice against issues like the gender pay gap and racial inequalities.
Similarly, Serena’s husband, Alexis Ohanian has also promoted women’s sports over the past few years. In July 2020, a new team in the NWSL was founded, in which Ohanian was one of the leading investors. Recently, he provided a positive update regarding his team and women’s sports.

Serena Williams’ husband lauds the impact of his team
The Reddit co-founder took to Instagram to share some good news about his team Angel City FC and women’s sports. Sharing a picture of his Angel City FC team, he said, “@acmomento worked with @weareangelcity to auction players’ shirts and raised money for the Player 22 Future Program, providing pathways for retired @nwsl players for sports-specific career development. A big win for women’s soccer.”
Further, Angel City FC’s match against San Diego Wave entered the record books. The match recorded a sellout crowd of 32,000 which was the biggest attendance for an NWSL match. San Diego Wave went on to win that match 1-0.
