Pegula triumphs over Kvitova

Jessica Pegula on Monday registered an impressive victory over the two-time Grand Slam champion Petra Kvitová. While speaking to the press about furthering her reach in the American Grand Slam, she said, “It feels amazing. I’m so happy.”

“Petra was going to be really tough the way she hits winners from anywhere in the court. It’s the first time I’ve beaten her too, so that was nice.” The 32-year-old is famous for her powerful left-handed groundstrokes and variety and had 2-0 lead over Pegula in the head-to-head before this match.

Now the no.8 seed will meet the World no.1 Iga Swiatek for a ticket to the semifinals about which she said, “I think I just have to play within myself and play smart and be present.”
