It’s been a tough season for the 23-time Grand Slam champion. Despite a strong start in Melbourne, Serena couldn’t make it past the semi-finals of the 2021 Australian Open. Even at the French Open, she lost in the fourth round of the tournament.

However, it wasn’t until her withdrawal from the Wimbledon Championship that rumors of retirement emerged. Sadly, she withdrew from the US Open a couple of months later.

Like her sister, Venus too appeared in Melbourne, but exited the tournament in the second round. Adding to her misery, she lost her first-round clash at the French Open, following by a second-round elimination from the 2021 Wimbledon Championship. Falling victim to physical setbacks, she too skipped the US Open, this season.
