However, in a surprising turn of events, the Canadian was defeated by American international Shelby Rogers in a three-set thriller. Hence, Rogers advances into the quarter-finals and her next challenge will be Jelena Ostapenko.

Despite clinching the first set, the Canadian couldn’t surpass Shelby Rogers. As a result, Rogers has now reached the quarter-finals of the event where she’ll be up against World No. 29, Jelena Ostapenko.

In the round of 32, Fernandez faced the ninth seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. Despite trailing behind by one set, Leylah cruised into the match and clinched the victory, eventually. The US Open finalist looked fearless as she displayed her prime game again.

In the quarter-finals of the competition, Shelby Rogers will face the 24th seed, Jelena Ostapenko. Ostapenko remarkably defeated the former French Open winner, Iga Swiatek, in the fourth round. Notably, Ostapenko won her fourth WTA title at Eastbourne International this year.

Besides, the pair have met on two different occasions. In both their meetings, Ostapenko has triumphed over the American. Thus, their head-to-head statistics stand at 2-0 in favor of Ostapenko.
