Serena Williams reveals the challenges of top athletes
Serena Williams, the name, is a brand in itself. However, there’s a darker side. The feeling of being there alone. On the podcast, the 41-year-old recently discussed in detail how playing tennis affected other areas of her life.

“Can be lonely at the top. Particularly in tennis, people don’t realize how many hours you spend by yourself. So much so that it was hard for me in a relationship,” Serena said.
She further added, “Coz I’m so used to being alone, every single minute in a day of my life that is like, well, I can’t even be around people. A lot of people don’t realize that, so you get the celebration and it’s great, but behind closed doors, life is different coz you have to live your life.”
However, Serena still found a positive in this negativity. “All that stuff is great because if there is no privacy, it means you are successful and it’s kind of what you want, but it comes at a cost. And it’s worth the cost if you think it is. There is always a tradeoff,” she concluded.
