Coco Gauff speaks about getting her picture on the New York Times cover
Gauff addressed the press after her stunning first-round victory in the US Open. A reporter asked her about the feeling she had when her picture appeared on the cover page of the New York Times. Replying to which Gauff said, “I haven’t seen it in person yet, to be honest. I saw the digital cover.”
She further added, “Honestly, when we shot it, I knew I was going to be on the cover. But I guess you don’t realize until it actually happens. It was pretty cool. The shoot was really fun to do. The article, I don’t read any of my articles, so I don’t know if it turned out well or not.”
She also revealed the reason why she never listens to her own interviews or reads her own articles. “I can’t stand the sound of my voice. It’s actually a problem. And I cannot stand reading quotes of mine, because a lot of the times I feel like it just seems so theatrical, I’m not trying to be that. But the way they put the edit and the quote and my name after it, I’m like, it’s not that serious,” Gauff added.
