The tennis community can’t keep quiet as the clay court season has started with the Charleston Open currently underway on Daniel Island. In the round of 32 fixtures, there is an all-American clash featuring two WTA players of high caliber, Jessica Pegula and Amanda Anisimova.

The Charleston Open, which is part of the WTA 500 category, takes place on the unique green clay courts in South Carolina. As the likes of Pegula and Anisimova will now be vying for a deep run in their home tournament, it will be interesting to see who comes out on top in this blockbuster opener in Charleston.

After participating in both events of the Sunshine Double, the American tennis star will now start the clay season at the Charleston Open, where she is the number one seed. During her campaign at the WTA 1000 event in Miami, Jessica Pegula swept aside the likes of Zhu Lin, Leylah Annie Fernandez, and Emma Navarro in the initial round matches. The current number 5 player, however, failed to overcome the 14th seed Ekaterina Alexandrova in the quarterfinals.

Amanda Anisimova, on the other hand, is coming to her home clay court tournament after her brief hiatus this season. In the round of 32, the American player, who is an unseeded participant, defeated her French opponent, Alizé Cornet, while pulling off a bagel set, winning with a score of  6-3, 6-0.

Pegula vs Anisimova: Head-to-Head

The R32 match between Jessica Pegula and Amanda Anisimova at this season’s clay court tournament will also mark their second meeting on the WTA circuit. In their previous encounter at the Western & Southern Open, Pegula defeated her compatriot in straight sets, and she currently has a 1-0 lead in their H2H record.

Prediction: Pegula to emerge victorious in the R32 match of the Charleston Open

Jessica Pegula is currently sitting in the top 5 rankings on the tour, while she is the number one seed at the Charleston Open.
