After an action-packed hard court season, we’re now slowly heading towards the clay court. And, it all starts with the iconic green clay court at the Charleston Open. The main draw of this 51-year-old tournament is set to get underway from Monday 1st April to Sunday 7th April. Danish tennis star, Caroline Wozniacki is set to take on the lucky loser, McCartney Kessler in her first match at the Credit One Stadium in just a few hours from now.

Wozniacki recently finished her 2024 Miami Open campaign with a second-round loss to Ukraine’s Anhelina Kalinina. Can she extend her run further in the Credit One Charleston Open?

Caroline Wozniacki started his season in 2024 with a defeat in her first match at the ASB Classic. She went to Melbourne after that to take part in the AO. In the 2024 AO, Wozniacki reached the second round but then yet again faced an early exit in her next tournament in San Diego. However, she made a stellar comeback at Indian Wells by reaching the QF. Unfortunately for the Dane, she had to retire early in the second set of the QF match against Iga Swiatek due to a right toe injury.  

Her Miami Open campaign couldn’t last longer as she got defeated in the R64. She’s now looking forward to starting her campaign on a high note at the Charleston Open. Will the 24YO American prove to be a major challenge to Caroline Wozniacki’s hopes in Charleston?

Well, the right-handed tennis star from Calhoun, Georgia made her WTA Tour debut this year after qualifying for the 2024 Auckland. She reached the R32 at the ASB Classic earlier this year and then got defeated in this R64 at the AO. After that, she won the ITF/USTA W75 finals before going on to clinch her first WTA 125 trophy at the end of February in Puerto Vallarta.

At the Indian Wells, Kessler could only make it to the R128. After that, she lost her latest match against Italy’s Elisabetta Cocciaretto in the QF of the Fifth Third Charleston 125. Can she cause a major upset in the former world number one’s camp in Charleston?

Well, both the tennis players haven’t met each other earlier in the tour. However, Caroline Wozniacki is an experienced campaigner and won the WTA Charleston Open title in 2011. She reached the finals in 2009 and 2019.

Wozniacki is currently ranked at the 129th spot in women’s ranking with an overall win-loss record of 567-239. While Calhoun’s McCartney Kessler is a very talented player with good hand-eye coordination. Her tenacity on the court has often been praised by her coaches.
