Shelby Roger made a comeback to the tour this year after almost a gap of 6 months. But she hasn’t yet regained her form and has been witnessing a series of setbacks in the tournaments she has taken part in 2024. Will this iconic green clay court event in Charleston be an exception for the 2016 French Open quarterfinalist?

Well, her compatriot California, Claire Liu, may have the perfect answer to this question. Liu is all set to take on the 31-year-old American tennis star, Shelby Rogers at the first round of the Credit One Charleston Open in just a few hours from now.

Shelby Rogers has been one of the most common performers in this tournament over the years. This will be her 13th appearance in this tournament. Talking about her journey so far this season, Rogers started his season with an early exit from the AO. After that, she faced yet another disappointing result after failing to qualify for the main event in the ATX Open. However, in Miami, she won her first match but got defeated in her next to Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova by 2-6,1-6. Can she turn the tables in the Charleston Open?

On the other hand, the 23-year-old American tennis player, Claire Liu started his season with a loss to Coco Gauff at the first match of the ASB Classic. She faced an early exit from the 2024 AO but made it to the R16 in her next tournament in Puerto Vallarta. Liu couldn’t qualify for the main event in her next two tournaments including the 2024 Indian Wells Masters

In the Miami Open, she made a good start to her campaign by winning her first match. But Claire Liu had to give a walkover to Daria Kasatkina in her next match due to an injury. She has taken three sets to win her previous matches at the qualifiers in Charleston. It’ll be interesting to see how well can she perform at the main event of the Charleston Open this year.

Shelby Rogers has met Claire Liu two times in her career. In fact, she also leads the H2H against her 23-year-old opponent by a 2-0 margin. They had met each other for the first time on the tour at the WTA Charleston 2 event in 2021 and two years later they crossed paths yet again at the WTA Dubai tournament. Whereas, Shelby Rogers has played only 14 matches over the past 365 days and her win percentage is just 35.7%. So, looking at all these stats the 23-year-old American looks to be the favorite to win this contest against the 31-year-old American.
