The fight against doping in sports has been going on for many years. However, athletes can still potentially manage to elude detection even in the face of rigorous testing protocols and anti-doping laws. The son of Jimmy Connors, Brett Connors, in a candid conversation, shared his honest response to Simona Halep’s drug test failure while talking about other ‘bigger’ names on the same subject.

Within the tennis community, the news of Halep’s failing drug test caused a tremor. But this is not the first time that such an incident has occurred in the tennis community. Previously, another significant name emerged in a similar situation: Maria Sharapova. Alluding to the fact that besides such big names, there must be other bigger personalities that might be associated with such incidents, Brett Connors called for more attention to the matter.

In a candid statement, Brett Connors addressed the inherent flaws in the present anti-doping system, where people who want to cheat will always find ways through the loopholes of the testing protocols. But it is almost impossible to find those names. This, ultimately, questions the integrity of the sport itself. “The old saying is the cheaters are always ahead of the testing. You know, so like, if you look at the history of tennis, the amount of people who’ve been popped for peds is pretty low”, said Brett Connors, addressing this issue in his podcast.

As a result, she received a 2-year suspension in 2016 that was later reduced to 15 months after her appeal. In a discussion with his father, Brett Connors said, “And then the actual names associated with it are also like, not that, you know, biggest names.”

When asked about Simona Halep, he further said, “One of them yeah. Sharapova, maybe the other”, alluding to the two stars of tennis. The drama revolving around such incidents did not stop here, as people are now questioning the bigger picture. Are there only these two significant names in the athletic realm that can be found while investigating this subject? Here’s what Brett Connors’ opinion suggests.

Alluding to the fact that such big names who are probably involved in the same activity don’t come out in the public eye, Connors touched on an important aspect of the whole story. “Like when you know, it’s probably prevalent in every athletic division and fighting and basketball, and football and baseball, just everything where they’re probably doing?” Connors further added.
