Serena had a tumultuous 2021 season owing to injuries

Serena, who is in pursuit of her 24th major title, came close to winning one earlier this year at the Australian Open. The American managed to reach the final four before getting ousted by Naomi Osaka. Osaka went on to claim her fourth major title by defeating Jennifer Brady in the final.

Since the Melbourne setback, Serena only played select tournaments before the start of the French Open and was defeated by Elena Rybakina in the pre-quarters at Paris. Still, fans anticipated Serena to find the groove at Wimbledon.

But, an unfortunate sip on-court forced her to retire from the first-round match at SW19. Since then, the American didn’t participate in any other event and is currently resting to stage a comeback in Australia next year.
