Now that John recently won his first Emmy award, the 12-time singles Grand Slam champion couldn’t hold herself back on social media. The American former world No. 1 tennis player recently took to her online platform to pen a heartfelt message for her “friend” after his outstanding accomplishment.

Billie Jean King reacts as Elton John wins his first Emmy award

The British singer and pianist, who has already won Grammy, Oscar, and Tony awards, recently added another prestigious accolade to his collection, becoming just the 19th person to do so. For his three-hour concert documentary “Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger Stadium,” streaming on Disney, the 76-year-old composer won his first Emmy for best variety special (live).

In doing so, Elton John now stands beside other legendary artists like Mel Brooks, John Legend, and Jennifer Hudson in the exclusive group of EGOT winners who have also won Tony, Emmy, and Grammy awards. Reacting to the news, John’s close friend Billie Jean King recently took to social media to send her heartfelt congratulations to the renowned British singer.

While sharing John’s “We won an Emmy and I am on cloud nine!!’ post in her Instagram story, the former tennis ace said, “Congratulations, my friend!” King has expressed her respect and admiration for John, who also supported her during her on-court campaign in 1974.

John accompanied King to her games at a mixed-gender tennis league

Back in 1974, the American tennis legend graced the World Team Tennis (WTT), a mixed-gender tennis league. After the establishment of the event, the Hall of Famer joined one of the charter franchises, the Philadelphia Freedoms. As a top seed and player-coach in the franchise, the former world No. 1 won the league’s Most Valuable Player award.
