Before her title-winning run at the Australian Open in 2017, Serena Williams found that she’ll soon give birth to her first child. Subsequently, she took a break from tennis after the Grand Slam Down Under. On the 1st of September that year, her daughter, Olympia was born. Serena, who went on to marry Alexis Ohanian soon after, had another moment to cherish in her life.

Olympia, now 4 years old, is a social media star. Like her mother, she never shies away from the camera and often shares glimpses of her wonderful day-to-day activities. Serena once revealed how she made a crying Olympia sleep during teething.

Serena Williams on comforting her daughter during teething

The 23-time Grand Slam champion took to Twitter to share a glimpse of Olympia feeling uncomfortable during teething. She said, “Teething- aka the devil – is so hard. Poor Alexis Olympia has been so uncomfortable. She cried so much (she never cries) I had to hold her until she fell asleep. I’ve tried amber beads… cold towels…. chew on mommies fingers…. homeopathic water (lol on that one) but……”

After giving birth to Olympia, Serena opened up about the difficult time she had in the hospital. The former World Number 1 had to undergo an emergency c-section. Additionally, she suffered health complications of her own.

The surgery was followed by a six-day battle with a pulmonary embolism. As a result, Serena had to undergo multiple surgeries and several medical troubles.

Serena’s comeback after giving birth to Olympia

The American legend returned to tennis in 2018, with the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells being the first tournament after giving birth to her daughter. She reached the third round before going down against her elder sister, Venus Williams.

Serena reached many finals, such as the Wimbledon Championships and the US Open in 2018 before finally winning her first title on her comeback. She won the ASB Classic in Auckland in 2020.
