All hail the “Queen of Toronto“, and why not? Jessica Pegula has now become the first woman to win back-to-back Canadian Open titles since Martina Hingis in 2000. Her family, friends, and teammates are all ecstatic about her enormous success in Toronto. Coming back from a disappointing Paris Olympics campaign, it was very important for Pegula to get a good start on hard courts before the US Open. This victory brought some joy to her teammates, who went with her to take part in the Paris Olympics.

Coco Gauff, Danielle Collins, and Emma Navarro reflected on their happiness with Pegula’s recent success. Later on, even Taylor Townsend also joined them with a social media story. Pegula beat Amanda Anisimova by 6-3,2-6,6-1 in this All-American clash in Toronto. This is Pegula’s second title of this season and her third career WTA 1000 title. Defending a title in any tournament is not an easy task, and this achievement made Collins refer to Pegula as the “Queen of Toronto” in her Instagram Stories.

Gauff also shared the same post from the WTA’s official Instagram page, which featured her usual doubles partner holding the title high in her hands. Gauff expressed her joy by captioning her IG story with, “ayeee“. Even Emma Navarro showed her support for Pegula through her social media posts. Both Pegula and Townsend share a strong bond on and off the court, so the 28-year-old tennis star also portrayed her love for her compatriot. She tagged Pegula on her Instagram Stories, and wroteYeaaahhh“, in the captions.

This is perhaps a true example of how success is best when shared with friends who support and celebrate your achievements. Pegula will next feature at the Cincinnati Open and she could well start her campaign over there against either Dayana Yastremska or last year’s runner-up, Karolina Muchova. However, before shifting our focus to Cincinnati, let’s first take a look at the post-match reaction of JP.

Jessica Pegula is happy to win the title in front of her close ones

The victory in this 1 hour 27 minutes battle has now made her the first American woman to win the title in Toronto since Serena Williams in 2013. Not only that, Pegula has also become the first player to defend a WTA 1000 title since Iga Swiatek (Rome 2021 & 2022). What an enormous victory this is in her career!

Reflecting on her thoughts on this victory, Pegula said that since Toronto is very close to Buffalo, a lot of her friends and family members like her grandparents and her husband were present inside the stadium. She revealed that’s something that doesn’t happen too often. So, “To be able to win the tournament as well, and to be able to share that moment with them is really special. I don’t know what it is about Canada, but I just seem to do well, so I’ll just … yeah, I’ll take it,” said the champ. Pegula feels very happy, excited, and honored with this emphatic triumph.
