Apparently, the 19-year-old was not impressed without the national governing body for tennis in the US sharing a cartoon post featuring both ATP and WTA from America. Although she herself was a part of the cartoon post, her thoughts on how she and her compatriots looked ugly brought her up in the headlines.

She stated, “So, yeah, I was just bored and commenting and making fun of it, because everybody else was making fun of us how bad we looked.” Not only that, she also clarified that after dropping the comment, she also tried to contact the USTA but was left unresponded, further calling out the cartoon.

Gauff added, “Then, yeah, I saw on Twitter people thought I was serious, but I wasn’t. It was all jokes. I did DM the USTA account and I was, like, what was the thought process behind this, as a joke. They never responded. I got left on read by USTA, which sucks. But, you know, it is what it is. Shout-out to, I think it’s Wild Thornberrys is the cartoon. Shout-out to them for making us look funny.”
