Coco Gauff Faces a Brutal Snub as Rival Iga Swiatek Namedrops Top Three Stand Out Players in WTA

World no.1 Polish tennis star, Iga Swiatek dropped an exclusive comment about the colleagues she thinks to be outstanding in tennis. This WTA 2023 champion again bagged her victory against Elena Rybakina at the Meteora Tennis League in Etihad Arena. While this tennis star went candid about her next season’s tournaments, she didn’t feel stressed about one of her biggest rivals, America’s Coco Gauff.

Now Gauff has been stealing all the headlines since she made an astonishing move winning 2023’s US Open. Despite her defeat, the tennis fraternity praised Gauff’s ending at the Australian Open 2023 as a quarter-finalist. Following this, fans felt that world no. 3 might be a competition to Swiatek. Not to forget their tense face-off at the WTA finals in Cancun. However, that is not the case. Iga Swiatek’s comment revealed a different case about her choice of WTA’s best for 2023.

In a recent interview, Swiatek was asked about the names of who she thinks are the WTA’s stand-out stars. The 22-year-old surprised fans as there was no mention of America’s Coco Gauff.

Swiatek said- “The women’s tennis has been at a consistent level for the last couple of seasons. Me, Aryna and Elena, I feel, are standing out and playing consistently but there are others who are also just trying to get better. However, for me there is no difference.”

The four-time major singles champion’s comment brought the names of her choice. However, Coco Gauff didn’t seem to get a place amid her fierce face-offs against Swiatek on the court.

Swiatek further said- “I like to work at my own pace, but when somebody is competing with you and keeps pushing you then it has a positive impact and a negative impact, but I don’t over analyze it.” Swiatek revealed that she is not a person to gets scared of competition. Instead, she prefers to use it as motivation for her further success.

Coco Gauff didn’t find her name on Swiatek’s list, and interestingly enough, in the recent past, Gauff had dismissed Swiatek’s skills after a match with her.

Coco Gauff dismissed Swiatek’s skills after losing to her at Cancun

This year, the WTA received a lot of complaints from players regarding their poor choice of venue during the WTA Finals. As enthusiastic players looked to dominate on the court, bad weather conditions took center stage. In the second round match amidst such tough conditions, Coco Gauff faced Iga Swiatek, where the kick serves from the Polish created problems for the 19-year-old. 

Coco Gauff got very frustrated because of those serves, and she went on to comment on it in the match itself. Gauff said, “It’s the court that does that; it’s not even a kick serve.” This is how, rather than giving credit to her opponent, Gauff blamed the court’s conditions.

Iga Swiatek does not really see Coco Gauff as a threat to her reign, and as it seems, even Gauff does not believe much in Swiatek’s skills. As the new season knocks at the door, it would be interesting to see how this rivalry evolves.
