Coco Gauff Fights Back From a Set Down to Defeat Yulia Putintseva at Italian Open 2021

The Italian Open 2021 has begun and fans witnessed an exciting match in the very first round. In an epic clash between Yulia Putintseva and rising star Coco Gauff, it was Gauff who played brilliantly under pressure and defeated the Kazakh player in three sets. The final scoreline of the match was 7-5, 4-6, 6-4.
Set-1: Coco Gauff takes away a close set
Even though Yulia Putintseva took an early lead after winning the first game and breaking her opponent in the second, World No.35 Coco Gauff broke right back in the next game and equalized the scoreline in the second game.

Bothe players held their service games after that until Gauff broke again to take the lead at 4-3. However, Putintseva fought back and broke in the tenth game to equalize the scoreline again at 5-5.

Gauff didn’t allow Putintseva to take the momentum as after winning the 11th game, she broke for the third time in the 12th game. As a result, she took the game, and thus, won the set 7-5
Set-2: Yulia Putintseva makes an incredible comeback
The 17-year-old Gauff got off to a great start after winning the first set. However, this time, the Kazakh player equalized the scoreline soon. She broke two times consecutively after that and took her lead to 4-1 at the end of the fifth game.
Gauff fought back and broke in the next game to narrow down the lead to 4-2. However, Putintseva broke again and was now just one game away from pushing the match into the third set.
Gauff broke again, but perhaps it was too late for her. She even saved 6 set-points in the ninth game of the match, but Putintseva eventually won the set after earning her 7th match-point. As a result, she won the set 6-4.

Set-3: Coco Gauff wins the decider easily
Coco Gauff yet again got off to a great start as she won the first three games after breaking in the second one. She even earned a break-point in the fourth game, but couldn’t capitalize on it. Thus, Putintseva managed to reduce the margin to 3-1. She even broke in the next game to bring the scoreline to 3-2.
However, Gauff was not ready to give it all away this quickly. She regained her momentum and broke in the next game to extend her lead to 4-2. She won the next game as well and was just one game away from entering the second round of the Italian Open 2021.

Gauff gained two match-points in the 8th game, but the Kazakh player saved both of them. Therefore, she managed to delay the match for a short time but was still trailing 3-5. She broke again and won four consecutive points to bring the scoreline to 4-5. However, Gauff gained her form back, broke in the subsequent game, won the set 6-4, and sealed her spot in the second round of the Rome Masters 2021.
