Coco Gauff found herself engaged in banter with Marta Kostyuk‘s husband as she shared a reply to his taunt.

The Quarter Final bout between Coco Gauff and Marta Kostyuk proved to be a difficult match-up for the US Open champion. After an intense three-setter, Gauff emerged victorious and moved to the semifinals of the Aussie slam.

Coco Gauff claps back at the taunt

Ever since she stepped on tour, Gauff has shown that she is not afraid to speak out. Recently, she showed this tendency once again. During her match with Kostyuk, the camera panned over to her husband, who wore a hat with a message that taunted Gauff. The message was, “Shake your cocos“, with two coconuts on the cap to accompany the pun.

Kostyuk’s husband, Heorhii, wore the cap to show support to her wife, hoping she would shake off Gauff and move forward into the tournament. However, the instance would come back to haunt him as Gauff went on to shut down Kostyuk in the third set. 

Remembering the words she saw, Gauff returned the taunt. On her Instagram story, she wrote the caption, “Shakey shake ❤️😂“, which was accompanied by a video of her moving on to the semifinals.

According to ESPN, in her victory speech, Stewart stated: “Coco, what you said when you won the US Open stuck with me: ‘I try my best to carry this with grace, but honestly, to those who thought they were putting water on my fire, you were really adding gas, and now I’m burning so bright.’
