During the first set, Stefani actually twisted her ankle and fell on the court. It looked like a serious injury in the beginning itself and later, she announced that she would not be able to play the match- giving the walkover to Gauff and McNally.

Interestingly, Gauff showed some excellent piece of character and sportsmanship on the court. Although she was on cloud nine after her victory, she tried her best to make sure that her opponent feels well. Intriguingly, she is the third teenager to reach the US Open 2021 finals this year after 18-year-old Emma Raducanu and 19-year-old Leylah Fernandez.
