Are female players finally getting their due? Well, the debate continues! However, Aryna Sabalenka, Coco Gauff, and Iga Swiatek have shifted the narrative by making history with their earnings this season. They individually surpassed the $8 million mark in a single season, breaking stereotypes and proving that women athletes can achieve financial success through their skill and determination. Their accomplishments challenge conventional perceptions highlighting how the world of sports is gradually recognizing the value of women’s contributions.
Women athletes saw a remarkable rise in their accumulated prize money this season. Their prize money hinted at a great year for the female athletes with three WTA players surpassing $8 million this season and two surpassing even $9 million. These players are WTA number one Aryna Sabalenka, former WTA number one Iga Swiatek, and 2024 WTA tour finals champion Coco Gauff. Sabalenka won two major titles this year, one in Melbourne and the other in Flushing Meadows. She earned $9,729,260 total showcasing a gigantic victory as the top-ranked tennis player. After Sabalenka, the second position came to Coco Gauff who ended her season with a total of $9,353,847. Gauff might not have won any Major this season but her doubles victory at the Roland Garros and her WTA Tour finals win helped her restore her position. In the third position, the fraternity has WTA number two Iga Swiatek. With only one Major title in her bag, Swiatek earned $8,550,693.
