Coco Gauff reveals the selfless nature of her father

In a recent interview, Coco Gauff shared insights into her relationship with her dad and how he has been a great support throughout her journey. Gauff revealed that her dad, instead of imposing his decisions, has always been there to provide guidance and even take the blame on himself.

“When I started asserting myself, there wasn’t any pushback. My dad, naturally protective, would say, ‘I can say no for you if you want me to. Or, I can always be the bad guy.’ He doesn’t really care what people think about him. I always appreciate having him by my side,” Gauff shared.

Gauff highlighted her dad’s selfless attitude, saying, “Whenever he needs to be the bad guy, he’ll just be like, ‘Blame it on me.’ Now he’s stepped back, saying, ‘I’m here if you need me, but I’m not going to make decisions for you. I can give you advice.'” As the tennis star shared details about his father’s nature, it no doubt came to be a motivation for every other dad who heard.

Gauff misses her dad’s presence on the courts

Besides highlighting the strong support that her father backed her with, Coco Gauff also highlighted an emotional aspect of missing her father’s presence on the courts. The rising star revealed that he stays away from the courts because of being superstitious.

“My dad isn’t in the box anymore bc he gets too nervous. He’s somewhere in 1 of the suites & he’s been apparently doing laps around the stadium. I don’t know if he can hear me right now, but I felt his good energy,” she said. As Gauff shared her heartfelt feelings about her dad, she not only gave fans a hint about the attitude that makes a young champ but also conveyed her feelings to him in a unique way.
