With seven WTA Tour singles titles, including a Grand Slam under her belt, Coco Gauff has undoubtedly established herself as a household figure on the women’s circuit. However, despite her remarkable accolades, the American tennis sensation is still far away from a ‘crossover star’ status, according to Chris Evert’s ex-husband John Lloyd’s recent disclosures.

The British former tennis player was recently singing the praises of the WTA superstar while lauding the US Open champion’s brilliant campaigns in different tournaments in the past few seasons. Meanwhile, Lloyd also revealed what Gauff needs to do in order to become a ‘crossover star’ in the sporting community, as the ‘theory is not quite there.’

John Lloyd talked about how the American tennis star was the favorite at the San Diego Open despite competing against some of the top-ranked players, including the number 1 Iga Świątek. He said, “And she was the only woman there that got a guarantee. Which shows you how big a star she is in the States and they were higher ranked players than her and the way the US has certainly done no harm to her brand. And I think she has the potential to be a crossover star.”

Even though he asserted that Gauff has the potential to be a ‘crossover star,’ Lloyd revealed that the reigning US Open champion still needs to win more than five Grand Slam titles. He stated,  “But once again, you have to win multiple slams. I mean, one is fabulous. Two is fabulous. Don’t get me wrong. But until you start with sort of the five and upwards to me, you know, the stardom is not the crossover star of theory is not quite there.”
