Behind every triumphant athlete comes a complicated story of overbearing parents and untold sacrifices. There are a lot of tennis players, including Steffi Graf, Jennifer Capriati, and Stefanos Tsitsipas, who are infamous for having troublesome fathers. But then not everyone is the same, and not everyone has a similar story; just like that, Coco Gauff‘s father is different from the crowd.

Even though the father of the 19-year-old tennis player has always supported her and shown her love without ever stirring up trouble, he recently showed off his superiority over other tennis parents by posting a message of gratitude for his daughter’s accomplishments as an athlete.

Coco Gauff’s father lauds his daughter’s confidence

Recently, when the world number three-ranked tennis player was playing against Karolina Pliskova in the round of 16, she stood up against the umpire’s wrong call at the Dubai Tennis Championships. The US Open champion in the second set found herself receiving a controversial call as the umpire. Pierre Bacchi gave her opponent the benefit of the doubt and ordered that the point be replayed.

After witnessing how his daughter took a stand against the wrong decision and made her point clear on the court, he took to his Instagram account to share a video from the match. Further, in the caption, he highlighted how the 19-year-old has turned out to be an incredible example for not only two women but her generation when it comes to fighting, and successfully moving on from it.

Along with that, he wrote, “So proud of my daughter. Standing up for yourself and fighting for fairness. You have the strength of your grandmothers who are 2 of the strongest women we know. While being passionate you remained respectful as you articulated your argument. The scene is so familiar to women and women of color pleading and fighting to be treated fairly and respectfully by their male counterparts.”

Coco Gauff thinks when “Andy said that, people actually listened”

Just a few days ago, the 41-year-old American tennis star appreciated Gauff’s father regarding how he knows when to let her take the lead, while he understands and guides her properly. Listening to these words, Gauff, in a Qatar open press conference, opened up about this stigma that, especially in America with black fathers, it’s a thing that they are not in their kids’s lives or that they are not great leaders or fathers.

She added, “So when Andy said that, I think people actually listened, because I always talk about how great my dad is, but some people believe me and some people don’t, but my dad is truly a great father.” Further, she highlighted that she is glad that even other people can see how amazing her father is, as he has done everything to help her reach where she is today.
