When Coco Gauff tried to keep up with her older cousins running at just 3yo

Being inclined to the sport since a young age, Gauff practiced regularly on the public tennis courts. Interestingly, her mother pointed out an episode that hinted at Gauff’s athletic prowess. The American sensation began walking when she was just 9 months old, skipping the crawling stage.

Further, when she was 3 years old, Gauff got out of her stroller and tried to run as fast as her older cousins and tried to catch up with them while they were running around a track. Although Gauff wasn’t able to overtake them as she was too small, she continued her chase and refused to tire out.

It gave a hint of Gauff’s tremendous stamina to her mother, who is a former track-and-field star. Spotting Gauff’s athletic excellence, Candi said, “That was the first inkling of like, ‘This is not normal.’” In addition to this, her coach, Brad Gilbert highlighted another quality of Gauff that puts her in a strong position.

Gilbert and Gauff joined forces last year and have had a successful partnership so far. Further, the legendary coach has been impressed by the amount of work his prodigy has put in and the dedication that Gauff brings to the sport.

Gilbert said, “Coco has a lot of resolve for a young player. And she’s learning how you know, what happened today doesn’t mean it’s gonna happen tomorrow. She’s a great kid. She literally has no shortage of doing what she needs to do to put in the hard yards to get better.”

With Gilbert in her team, Gauff won the US Open title this year. More is yet to come from the American sensation, and she will look to win her maiden French Open title next month.
