Creating a company from scratch is a difficult process. It requires immense dedication, and people work for hours to build a fortune through business. With so much time being spent on a project, likening it to a child is one of the more obvious outcomes. As Reddit turns 18, co-founder Alexis Ohanian, the husband of Serena Williams, celebrated his former company turning into an adult. As wishes poured in, Ohanian acted like the parent of the social media platform, especially after a comment from Chicago P.D. actress, Sophia Bush.

While Ohanian thought of Reddit as his baby, he left as the CEO of the platform back in 2020. He spent night and day making sure Reddit could compete with platforms such as Twitter and Facebook. 

Alexis Ohanian celebrates Reddit’s new milestone

Founded on 23rd June 2005, the social media platform recently celebrated turning an adult. Reddit was founded by Alexis Ohanian and Steve Huffman, and since its conception, it now stands as one of the most popular community platforms worth $15 billion. 

In his celebratory post on Instagram, Ohanian shared a picture of the Twitter post of Web Design Museum wishing the platform a happy 18th birthday. He also shared a caption in which he talked about how the name was finalized. 

“I named @reddit in Alderman library at @UVA. At first everyone hated the name, including our investors, but I’ve always been too stubborn. Gotta trust your instincts even as a first-time CEO and product designer. Thanks to all of you and all of your upvotes for making this kid’s dream a reality.”

While there were many reasons to celebrate, the comment section showed another. Sophia Bush, lead of Chicago P.D. and One Tree Hill, wished the platform “18! 🌟 “. Ohanian responded to her comment with tears of joy as he wrote, “@sophiabush all grown up 😭“.

With every trial it has faced, the corporation has only grown more. While he did celebrate the platform’s new milestone, he is no longer involved in its functioning.

As the ‘Black Lives Matter’ protests heated up in 2020, Ohanian handed in his resignation to make sure his company could step in the right direction. As he announced he was leaving the company, he also suggested that they fill his position with a candidate in order to make Reddit a better place for persons of color.

Serena Williams was quite happy that Ohanian made the move and stated that she was proud of him. While he is now away from Reddit, the co-founder is proud of the pedestal on which it stands.
