In the quarter-final match at the ongoing US Open that lasted a mere 68 minutes, it was the heroics of Coco Gauff that the world watched in awe. Although many expected a close encounter, Gauff defied expectations and won against Jelena Ostapenko in straight sets (6-2, 6-0). Ostapenko slams authorities for poor scheduling amid loss to Coco Gauff

Following her quarter-final defeat by Coco Gauff at the US Open, Jelena Ostapenko candidly addressed the tournament’s scheduling, labeling it ‘a little bit crazy.’ Ostapenko’s remarks shed light on the challenges players face when it comes to managing their match schedules and recovery time.

Ostapenko’s primary concern was the quick turnaround between late-night sessions and early-morning matches. She emphasized that after playing a late-night session, players often have little time to recuperate, despite the one-day break between matches. She pointed out that players still need to practice, undergo treatments, and attend to their regular routines.

“If I play a match, like, a late-night session, then I suppose in one day I have to play at least at the same time or later on because you don’t really have much time to recover. Even if you have this day in between, you still need to practice, to do your things, to do the treatment and stuff,” said Ostapenko in the post-match conference.

Moreover, Ostapenko revealed that she had anticipated a night session based on prior information from tournament officials. However, when the schedule was released, she was surprised to find herself assigned to the first match of the day.

“I was pretty sure I’m gonna play at night session because that’s what they told me. When the schedule came out, I saw I was playing the first match and was, like, wow, that’s a little bit strange scheduling,” Ostapenko further continued describing her frustration towards the scheduling.

However, this is not the first time that the players have slammed the authorities for poor scheduling of the matches. Previously at the Cincinnati Masters as well, players have been debating a lot about the ongoing concern surrounding the poor scheduling of the matches, which did not allow them the appropriate time to rest or recover after any match.
