Bizarre events often take place in tennis events, and the Indian Wells Masters is no different. While we have seen some bizarre moments take place and a storm of bees causing a match to stop has not happened many times, but it happened during the clash between Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev. The bout had to be stopped as the Spaniard got stung by bees once or twice.

As the news of the bee storm went viral, several tennis stars were shocked by the news, including Coco Gauff, who sympathized with Alcaraz as he found himself running around, saving himself from the bee sting.

Gauff played against Yue Yuan in the quarterfinal and found herself winning the clash in straight sets. The American youngster then sat down to talk about the bee swarm incident in Alcaraz’s match. At first, she was a little perplexed about the score being 2-1 after her match when the two started playing at the same time.

She said, “But that was crazy. I’ve never seen anything like that. Did Alcaraz actually get stung? Oh, he did. I heard that. I saw the video of him trying to, like, run away, I said he wasn’t fast enough. He’s a fast guy on the court, but I think he was trying to ask for clarification on what was going on. I would have just time violation, just leave (smiling).”

She then sympathized with him as she talked about having to run around fighting with bees, which is essentially a losing battle because of the sheer number of the colony.

Coco Gauff talks about Carlos Alcaraz’s difficulty in dealing with bees

When the video of the bee event went viral, Alcaraz was seen swinging his racket to avoid being stung. However, he failed to deal with it and ran to the back of the court so as not to get stung. Gauff mentioned the problem that comes with having to adjust to them.

That’s just one of those things that I just, you can’t defeat the bees. You know, he tried to swing his racquet, but there were just too many of them. I did feel bad for him. I’m glad he’s not allergic. That would have been tough. Yeah, that’s the craziest thing I’ve ever seen happen at a tennis court, and hopefully it will never happen again, at least not to me (smiling).”
