Andy Roddick “can’t say enough good things” for Danielle Collins’ outstanding performance on the court. With 13 straight wins, including crowns at the WTA 1000 Miami Open and the WTA 500 Charleston Open, the former world No. 7 has emerged as the WTA’s most notable player. However, her decision to retire at the end of the season has caused quite a stir in the tennis community. Andy Roddick suggested that her “impending decision to retire” may have given her a renewed sense of mental freedom and contributed to her current performance.

In his podcast, Served with Andy, he highlighted that Danielle Collins has incredible athletic ability. And she can position herself well on the baseline and dish out a constant flurry of strokes. Her ability to consistently play high-quality points and make it extremely tough for opponents to get an advantage amazed him.

“I can’t say enough good things about Collins. I don’t know if her impending decision on this being her last year has just freed her up completely mentally. The physical part of it is so convincing right now with what she’s doing. She is just setting herself up right on the baseline and distributing, just throwing punch after punch after punch after punch,” Roddick said during a conversation with Jon Wertheim in the podcast.

Roddick stated that Danielle Collins’ confidence comes from her absolute faith in her ability to consistently play top-notch tennis. It does not come from expecting to win every point with spectacular shots. He emphasized how she frequently keeps opponents guessing and puts them in awkward circumstances with her excellent racquet speed and clever shot placement.

“She’s winning points. I’ve seen her hit more winners through the middle of one side of the court. People are having to guess what it’s going to hit across court down the line. Her margins are pretty safe. She’s just hitting it so well, moving so well. She’s not giving up the center of that court.” Roddick further added, describing her unpredictable skills on the court. Furthermore, Andy Roddick remarked on Danielle Collins’ outstanding form and compared her with Andre Agassi.

Roddick drew a parallel between Collins and Agassi

Andy Roddick, the 2003 US Open champion, linked Collins’ game adjustments to those of the legendary Andre Agassi. Former World No. 1 Agassi is famous for standing right up on the baseline and taking big swings. Referring to that, Roddick said, “That’s what Collins has been doing the last couple of weeks, right? Not missing a second serve return, making first serves, the error count has come way down.” Roddick also stated that his family had been riveted to the television for the last several weeks, witnessing Danielle Collins’ incredible feat.
