Earlier this week, Martina Navratilova stunned her fans with an emotional interview where she revealed her battle with cancer. The 66-year-old had a horrifying cancer treatment after coming to know that she was suffering from two types of cancer, throat and breast cancer. Although both of them were detected in the early stages, she had to undergo traumatizing treatment. Despite receiving ample support from her wife, Navratilova revealed that they both were scared during this tough period.
Like Navratilova, Evert has also had her fight against cancer. The American tennis legend was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in December 2021. She put on a brave battle and a year later, revealed that she was cancer-free. Amidst this, WTA has come up with a great initiative for a noble cause.

WTA launches a campaign for a great cause
The Women’s Tennis Association Charities joined hands with Hologic to undertake a campaign against cancer. The campaign supports the fight against cancers affecting women with a donation being made for all aces hit at WTA 1000/500 events. Additionally, fans can support the campaign by sending in their donation to the WTA Charities.

As far as the aceing leaderboard is concerned, former Wimbledon champion, Elena Rybakina leads the pack with 248 aces. France’s Caroline Garcia is a distant second with 171 aces and Aryna Sabalenka closely follows her in the third position with 168 aces.

Recently, Navratilova and Evert got together where they talked about their relationship with each other and their battle against cancer. Talking about the latter, Evert said that Navratilova was one of the first ones she informed about cancer diagnoses. The bond between them continues to grow after brave cancer battles.
What did Martina Navratilova say about her cancer treatment?
After getting cancer free, the 66-year-old tennis legend sat down with her wife to reveal horrifying details about her cancer treatment. Talking about this, she said, “So I was diagnosed early December and I finally got all-clear three weeks ago. So it really has been seven months of hell emotionally and physically.”

With the awareness of cancer spreading and organizations like WTA taking steps in the fight against this disease, a ray of hope emerges. Moreover, as technology develops, new measures should be developed to prevent the situation that Navratilova has gone through.
