‘Deep Sense of Sadness’ – Venus Williams, Lindsey Vonn and Other Athletes React to Naomi Osaka’s Emotional Post

Naomi Osaka is one of the most loved athletes in the world. Osaka has a huge fan base and has always been showered with immense love and support from her fans. However, it is not just the fans but also the fellow athletes, from all sports, who have been admirers of the Japanese player.

Recently, she took to her Instagram to put up a post related to the Tokyo Olympics 2020. The post was a collection of multiple photos/videos and a long caption. The post was an emotional one, and her fellow players took no time to respond to the post.

Osaka’s nostalgic post for the Olympics

On Saturday, 19th February, Japanese sensation Naomi Osaka put up a post on Instagram. The post took her followers down memory lane, to the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

The caption of the post read, “So the other day I was reflecting on the Olympics, I don’t know if it was because the Winter Olympics are going on now but something had me reminiscing about the time I had. I realized that I had regrets about the whole experience, (not the torch lighting though that was 🔥 literally), there was a deep sense of sadness for not having more fun for the time I was there. Can’t believe I was at the Olympics in Tokyo and I failed to consistently find the immense joy in that.

“I think that’s gonna be really important in my life going forward, just enjoying the experiences and making the most out of the time no matter how short or long it is lol. Anyways hope you guys are doing well and staying safe, I’m sure I’ll see you around.”

A number of people reacted to the post, showering love and warmth on the former World No.1. However, out of the numerous comments, some comments took the limelight.

Former World No. 1 Venus Williams reacted to the post, calling her an inspiration for everyone. She said, Always inspiring is what you do.”

Another comment which took the light was of former Alpine Ski Racer, Olympic medalist, and World champion Lindsey Caroline Vonn. Being a one-time Olympic Gold and two-time Olympic Bronze medal winner herself, she encouraged the 4-time Grand Slam winner in the warmest of the way. She said, Finding the joy is what makes the adventure so great.”

It was not just athletes but also their spouses who came out to show their love for Osaka. Basketball legend Kobe Bryant’s wife, Vanessa Bryant, also commented on the post giving out hearts to the 24-year-old Osaka. 

Naomi Osaka at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics

Undergoing the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, the Tokyo Olympics 2020 was rescheduled to take place in 2021. Seeing Naomi Osaka’s successful run in the professional circuit, she was selected as the final torchbearer of the Olympic Torch Relay.

On the tennis front, Osaka entered the draw as the 2nd seed. She started her Olympic campaign by beating China’s Saisai Zheng 6-3,6-2. Having a confident start, she extended her victory with a second-round win against Swiss player Victorija Golubic.

Seeing Osaka’s had become one of the leading contenders of the Olympic Medal. In the third round, she faced Czech player Marketa Vondrousova. However, unlike the first two rounds, the result was the complete opposite this time. Naomi Osaka was stunned by the Czech national in straight sets.
