Venus Williams hasn’t played a competitive match since her participation in her home Grand Slam event. Now that she is in the twilight of her tennis journey, the 7-time singles Grand Slam champion recently shared glimpses of her preparations for her return to the court.

It is not looking good for the American tennis legend ahead of her much-awaited comeback, according to her recent social media posts. The 43-year-old player recently brought to light her on-court struggles during a practice session.

Venus Williams gets real about her on-court struggles ahead of comeback

Now that the new season is about to kick off, the former world No. 1 player is leaving no stone unturned in her preparations. However, Venus Williams is struggling to keep up with some of the basic skills and techniques of the game.

In her recent Instagram stories, the American tennis player opened up about how she was finding it quite challenging to hit serves and volleys. While sharing a video clip of her practice session, Williams said in the caption, “Failed serve and volley attempt.” Aside from serves and volleys, the 7-time singles Grand Slam champion also struggles to deliver some “clean and crispy shots.”

In another post, Willaims said, “Nothing like clean crispy shots.” While she talked about her on-court challenges, the WTA superstar also revealed how she found it hard to keep her forehand ball inside the court. She stated, “That forehand was a little wide.” As she prepares for her robust comeback, let’s take a look at the American tennis icon’s 2023 season.

Williams’ lackluster campaigns in the 2023 season

The 43-year-old player was far from her optimum levels this season, as she failed to proceed to the latter stages of various tournaments. Williams started the 2023 season with her participation in the ASB Classic, where she was knocked out after the round of 16. Even in the following tournaments, including the Birmingham Classic, the American player tasted defeats in the early rounds.

Apart from the WTA 250 events, Williams also participated in two Grand Slams in the 2023 season. In the Wimbledon Championship, the former world No. 1 player was ousted in the very first round after her defeat against Elina Svitolina. Even at her home Grand Slam event, the US Open, Williams failed to overcome her first-round opponent, Greet Minnen.
