Coco Gauff is living her dream. At just 19, she has already caught the tennis world’s attention with courageous displays on the court. Earlier this month, she won her maiden Grand Slam title by winning the US Open in front of her home fans. The American sensation overcame the challenge of Aryna Sabalenka to win the title. However, it wasn’t the smoothest of rides for the reigning US Open champion at the tournament.
Recently, Serena Williams’ former hitting partner, Jarmere Jenkins has lauded Gauff’s mental strength to overcome tough situations. Jenkins joined Gauff’s coaching staff earlier this year. Together, the team has enjoyed tremendous success. Let’s find out what he had to say about Gauff.

Talking about it, he said, “Going into New York, for me the standout match there is the Sabalenka match where she just kind of blew by us the first set and Coco took the break there after the first set and kind of just regrouped, you know. Another example didn’t really serve her best tennis, didn’t really hit her forehand the best, had every reason to panic, had every reason to look back in the past.”
The 19-year-old had to dig deep and produce her best tennis in most of her matches at the US Open. Moreover, she overcame a one-set deficit in 3 of her matches at the tournament, including the final against Sabalenka.

Another team member of Gauff, Pere Riba recalled the panic in the player’s box.
Pere Riba makes a candid confession
Gauff’s dream of winning her maiden Grand Slam title was almost crashed after she had a disastrous opening set. Recalling the tension in her box, Riba mentioned, “She was playing a little bit short. Sabalenka was more aggressive than Coco in the beginning, and you know, we were in the tight spot.”
