Iga Swiatek, being the WTA number 1, is immediately one of the favorites for any tournament she enters. The Polish player has proven her talent time and time again. However, Elena Rybakina and Aryna Sabalenka are also two players who have changed gears this season. They are performing just as better as the world number 1. Seeing their class on the court, Andy Roddick recently chose Rybakina over Swiatek and Sabalenka as his favorites for Wimbledon.

Andy Roddick snubs Iga Swiatek for WTA number 2 and 3

As the French Open becomes a thing of the past, tennis fans are gearing up for the only grass major. The Wimbledon Championships are right around the corner, and people are picking their favorites. For the WTA, many would name Iga Swiatek as their winner. However, Andy Roddick, an American tennis legend, believes that Swiatek will be overshadowed by her rivals.

In his segment on the Tennis Channel, Roddick stated that Rybakina would win the slam since she is the better player of the top three on the grass. He also stated that he is a big fan of Swiatek, but she has not achieved much on grass.

Further, he said that Rybakina would also be a good choice since she suffers from movement on clay, and her footwork would prove superior on grass.

Roddick said, “Conversely everything that is a struggle for Rybakina on clay with the movement, slowing down her shots through the court, is additive at Wimbledon. I don’t know how you can’t make her the favorite.”

He also stated that after Rybakina, he would pick Sabalenka and then Swiatek. “I would think Sabalenka would be the second favorite and then Iga third or fourth, but Iga is largely unproven on grass, and I am sure she would probably tell you the same thing. She does have some challenges on this surface, especially if it’s playing quick.”

Fans against Roddick’s beliefs

Swiatek was flying at the start of the Roland Garros final as she won the first set in just 48 minutes. But Muchova destroyed her momentum by winning the second set.

However, Swiatek did not relent and won the slam. Her out-of-the-world performance made her fans worship her as they claimed she would win the Wimbledon without issues.
