American tennis legend Serena Williams recently played her last tennis match. After declaring her retirement plans, the 40-year-old made it to the third round of the US Open. While the legend was not in her best form of late, she also had other reasons to retire from tennis.

One of the major reasons was giving time to her family. In particular, to her five-year-old daughter Olympia. The five-year-old who is quite popular on social media now also has an interesting story behind her name.

Serena herself narrated the story behind the naming of her daughter.

Back in 2019, Serena Williams explained an interesting fact regarding her daughter’s name. Many of us don’t know that the first name of Olympia is Alexis. It’s also the first name of Serena’s husband and Olympia’s daughter Alexis Ohanian.

“Her name is Alexis Olympia. My husband’s name is Alexis and so I thought it will be cool if we had a junior and that was a female and it’s so cool and so her name is actually Alexis but I always call her Olympia and that’s like that means strong,” Serena said.

‘Someone Who Understands Me Without Even Saying a Word’ – Venus on Serena Williams’ Influence on Her Tennis

The former world number 1 further explained how her initials also coincidentally match with the Australian Open. “Eight months later I was like oh my god AO was like Australian Open. Which is all kind of weird because I found out I was pregnant in Australia at the Australian Open. I didn’t even mean to name her like have to initials, but it just so kind of happened,” she added.

Serena’s elder sister Venus Williams reacted just like all of us when Serena hung her racket. She also said that retirement was unimaginable. Notably, the 42-year-old is still active, and she also hopes to get her sister’s service for practice in the coming days.

The Williams sisters formed a formidable duo in doubles and they played their last match together in the US Open. While Venus is still active, she won’t be playing doubles again.
