The American tennis icon, Serena Williams has won every possible title during her illustrious tennis journey. The 23 Grand Slam champion reached great heights under the guidance of her father and coach, Richard Williams. ‘King’ Richard did his best to coach her tennis star daughter to become of the tennis greats.

Additionally, Richard has always stood up for Serena during the dark phases of her tennis journey. He was also there to take a stand against the backlashes her daughter faced during a Grand Slam event.

Richard Williams once stood up for her daughter, Serena Williams

The 23 Grand Slam title winner was being booed by the audience during the French Open in 2003. As a result, Serena Williams got distracted during the tour. As a result, her father, Richard Williams, was enraged by the crowd that was criticizing her daughter.

‘King’ Richard then compared her daughter’s situation to the former tennis players, Chris every and Steffi Graf. He once stated, ”You didn’t see them booing Evert or Graf,” indicating that the fans never booed the former French Open champions during their tour.

Serena’s father went on to say that the fans were never the same when it comes to her daughter’s tour. Richard stated, ”All of a sudden, it’s O.K. That’s why I’m here, to make sure it doesn’t happen again. They’d better not do that to my daughter, or any daughter.”

There were many rumors about the reason behind the criticism faced by Serena Williams. However, whatever they were ‘King’ Richard was not pleased by the behavior of the fans.

Oracene Price also supported her daughter, Serena, during the event

The Williams family shrugged off the harsh behavior of fans toward Serena during the French Open. However, Oracene Price later expressed her feelings about the incident involving her tennis star daughter. She went on to say that the fans wanted “a blonde and a ponytail.”

  Price further expressed her disappointment towards the incident at Roland Garros.

Serena’s mother added that the audience “didn’t want to see another Williams” in the Grand Slam final. However, the Williams sisters ignored the criticism, and they went on to win many other Grand Slam titles, including the French Open.
