Jelena Ostapenko waves out Pera fan

As the intense match unfolded, a fan supporting Bernarda Pera began behaving disruptively, trying to distract Ostapenko. The fan was really into cheering for Pera and was not letting Ostapenko focus on her game. Initially, even though it was distracting, Ostapenko didn’t let it get to her. She made it clear that she was determined to win by gesturing to the fan to stop. But finally, she had had enough.

Ostapenko cheekily waved him goodbye after she won a point against her opponent. Once the disruptive fan’s behavior was met with the Latvian player’s strong response, he got so upset that he decided to leave the stadium. As he walked out, the palpable tension eased out from the atmosphere almost instantly as the people in the crowd clapped their hands in approval.

After a decisive R3 victory, Jelena Ostapenko will now be facing the top-seeded Pole, Iga Swiatek in her fourth-round clash. The latter’s third-round match was quite the cakewalk for Swiatek as she breezed past her opponent, finishing in just 49 minutes with only 1 game lost.
