With 49 WTA singles titles under her belt, Venus Williams has long been a resounding figure in the tennis realm. However, age catches up with everyone, and the 43-year-old tennis legend is no exception given her recent injury woes. Plagued by her knee injury, the former world no.1 has already been sidelined for almost this entire season. With a lot of skepticism surrounding her fitness levels, the 7 singles Grand Slam champion is now going to mark her participation at the US Open. In the first round of the tournament, Williams has been given a challenging matchup against the young tennis star and the former world no.2, Paula Badosa.

But, in a surprising turn of events on social media, a flurry of fans are now claiming that it should be the young Spanish player who should be wary ahead of their encounter in New York.

The tennis community touts Venus Williams ahead of her clash against Paula Badosa

Christopher Clarey, the renowned journalist, recently brought to light the news that the 43-year-old player is “healthy enough” to compete against Paula Badosa in New York. He tweeted, “If 43-year-old wild card Venus Williams is healthy enough to play, she’ll face former world No. 2 Paula Badosa in the first round of the US Open”.

Taking heed, a flurry of fans deemed that his Tweet already positioned Badosa as the favorite to win against the ‘injury-plagued wild card’ Venus. Thus, one of the fans asserted that it should be the other way around, as it is the Spanish tennis star who should be worried about her match against the ‘7 time singles Grand Slam champion.’

The user said, “Let’s fix this, ‘If two time US Open champion, 7 time grand slam winner and former world no 1 wild card Venus Williams is healthy enough to play, she’ll face former world No. 2 Paula Badosa in the first round of the US Open'”.

Similarly, another fan predicted that Williams would surprisingly ‘knock out’ the former world no.2. He said, “That would be fun. Badosa on her way out and would be nice career capper for V.”

Meanwhile, one of the fans suggested that the 43-year-old ‘wild card’ still possesses the prowess to outshine some of the higher-ranked and young players in the women’s circuit.

He said, “I’m okay with her as a wild card. She’s not a problem. She even beats some of the higher ranks. People should focus on why the youngsters are being beat.”

Another user pointed out that Queen V, in her optimum fitness levels, is going to be a big trouble for the young WTA player. He said, “A healthy Venus is big trouble for Paula 😳”

In light of her romantic relationship with Stefanos Tsitsipas, a fan hilariously said that the Spanish tennis beauty will taste defeat as she might be too “distracted”. The user said, “That’s a winnable match for Venus. Paula has been “distracted “ lately. LETS GO V!!!!💪🏼 🇺🇸”
