‘Doesn’t Know I’m Listening’ – Daughter Olympia’s Adorable Wish Paved the Way for Serena Williams’ Final Call On Her Career

Earlier today, 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams announced her retirement news, which became a massive talking point among fans. Since the news came out, fans have been wondering about the reason for this sudden announcement.

Notably, Serena will turn 41 next month. Understandably, age is one of the major factors for Serena to take that decision. However, Serena talked about wanting to have another child to fulfill her daughter Olympia’s wish, in her first-person essay written for Vogue.

Serena Williams talks about having another child

In her essay for the Vogue magazine, Serena said, my daughter, Olympia, who turns five this month…We’re in my car, and she’s holding my phone, using an interactive educational app she likes. This robot voice asks her a question: What do you want to be when you grow up? She doesn’t know I’m listening… She says, ‘I want to be a big sister.'”

Moreover, Serena revealed that Olympia constantly talks about having a baby sister. Interestingly, she doesn’t want a baby brother. Later, the 23-time Grand Slam winner talked about trying to have another child with her husband Alexis Ohanian.

“In the last year, Alexis and I have been trying to have another child, and we recently got some information from my doctor that put my mind at ease and made me feel that whenever we’re ready, we can add to our family. I definitely don’t want to be pregnant again as an athlete. I need to be two feet into tennis or two feet out,” Serena further said. 

Serena won the Australian Open while carrying Olympia

Throughout her career, Serena has given us plenty of miracles on the tennis court. However, winning a Grand Slam tournament while carrying a child was probably the most outstanding achievement in her career. Notably, during the Australian Open in 2017, she was two months pregnant and kept it private.

In the final, she beat her sister Venus to win the 23rd Grand Slam title of her career. Certainly, after her win, the news about her pregnancy became the main talking point, as many praised her for winning the tournament.

Notably, that was the last time she won a Grand Slam title. Since then, she has been in four Major finals but luck was not on her side. Meanwhile, this year’s US Open will be her last opportunity to win the Grand Slam title and match the Australian legend Margaret Court’s record.
