She just wasn’t the type for people to coddle over her, take care of her. She’s super independent. In that way, it kind of works seeing me out there still playing and working hard. Basically, she doesn’t want me around her (laughter). She’s just like, Go do your thing, why are you here?

WTA Number 3 on Mother’s Health

In a note to Players Tribune in February, Pegula relayed the entire information of her mother’s situation. After she went back home from the French Open, Pegula celebrated the single’s quarterfinal and the double’s final with her family. However, things would turn for the worse when she received a call that her sister and father were taking their mother to the hospital as Kim had suffered a cardiac arrest.

After Kim passed out, Jessica’s sister administered CPR on her and was able to revive a heartbeat. As the ambulance came, they did critical work to bring her back to stability. In the hospital, the Pegula family waited to hear good news. While their mother’s condition was improving, they had to stay in the hospital for two weeks.
