Serena Williams is undoubtedly a tennis legend, having won 23 Grand Slams during her career. However, despite her success, she has also had some poor performances. Patrick Mouratoglou, her former coach, once revealed the reason for Williams’ inconsistency at Grand Slams.
Williams’ longtime coach parted ways with the 23-time grand slam champion before Wimbledon, bringing an end to a decade-long partnership that helped her to win multiple grand slam singles titles.

Patrick Mouratoglou on Serena Williams’ performance
Mouratoglou had previously worked with Serena, helping her in winning 10 of her 23 grand slam titles as well as an Olympic gold medal. However, while discussing what it was like to coach an all-time great like Serena, the French coach once revealed one of the major reasons for Williams’ inconsistency.

He once told Serena, “There are a few reasons why you lost too many matches. First of all, you don’t always go to tournaments being ready 100%. This is a big mistake because you lose matches because you’re not prepared 100%. And at the end of the year, every loss brings other losses. Every loss takes confidence out of you, and it hurts you. You can’t afford to lose for bad reasons. You can’t win everything, but every time you lose a match, you have to be sure of three things.”

Patrick Mouratoglou has been a top tennis coach over the last decade. The former coach of Williams is now working with Simona Halep. The Frenchman also runs the Mouratoglou Academy, which trains aspiring tennis players.
Williams’ coaches following Mouratoglou’s departure
Serena shook hands with Venus’s coach for her comeback event after breaking ties with the French coach. For her England tour, she worked with Eric Hechtman. The former World No. 1 and Hechtman reached the Eastbourne International doubles quarterfinals. Despite this, she failed to make an impression at Wimbledon.

She then appointed Rennae Stubbs to her team. Williams competed in the US Open under the guidance of the Australian. Despite a solid effort, the 23-time Grand Slam champion was unable to defeat Ajla Tomljanovic of Australia in the third round of the US Open.
