Venus Williams shares her mother’s golden words

After joining hands with Dove, the former world number one and entrepreneur stressed in an interview with New Beauty the message of girls carrying body confidence. Williams revealed she is quite excited to work with Dove to nurture girls’ self-belief in whatever sport they choose. She also shared the advice that was given by her mother in the same context.

Williams said, “I had strong role models in my parents—especially my mom. She always said, ‘Don’t ever let anyone tell you what to wear.’ The same went for anyone telling you how to feel and how to think; I had a great opportunity growing up to embrace that.”

Further, she also gave credit to her mother for helping her to instill confidence in her own career. Along with that, she also revealed how girls should openly express their choices. And, at the same time, carry their natural beauty with grace. Subsequently, she also highlighted the real conditions that girls face in sports.

Williams said, “In sports, girls often face a tremendous amount of pressure—not just around performance and abilities, but also because of unrealistic expectations around their appearances.” Subsequently, this was not the first time she shared her mother’s advice. Earlier this year, in a question-and-answer session on her Instagram, she revealed her mother’s best piece of advice she has ever received in her entire career.

When Williams revealed her mother’s best piece of advice

Earlier this year, when the former world number one was getting ready for her comeback, she revealed her mother, Serena, and her stepsister, Lyndrea Price’s, golden counsel, which has motivated her to give her best. As Oracene Price advised her to be cautious of the world, the 23-time Grand Slam champion urged her to ignite her spirit to compete on the tennis field.

She also learned how to put off things and keep up with time from her stepsister. Nonetheless, given the way the 43-year-old has grabbed center stage with her comeback and off-court endeavors, it wouldn’t be inaccurate to say she has always followed her family’s counsel, particularly her mother’s.

However, what do you think about Oracene Price’s crucial advice on being confident? Post your comments in the space below.
