Martina Navratilova on her life after marriage
The 18-time Grand Slam champion had an interview with the New York Times shortly after her marriage. When asked about the change that marriage brought to her life, the 65-year-old replied, “I want to write an article about it, how much it changes your life. And I’ve talked to other couples. You just feel much stronger. For me, it’s: Don’t mess with my relationship. Don’t mess with my family. It really gives you validation and gives you kind of a wall that you can lean on if something happens.”
Further, the legend explained how marriage also provides legal protection and benefits. “The legal protections you get from being married are astronomical. It’s like 1,600 different laws that protect you. Julia and I are not any more committed to each other than we were before our marriage. But in the eyes of the law, we are, and that’s great,” she concluded.
