American tennis stars Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula represented the US at WTA Finals this year. The duo played doubles together and were part of the singles leg as well. However, to the utter disappointment of the host nation, the two gave forgettable performances.

While there are a few voices behind their support, the two are also facing stern criticism for their poor show. One such person unhappy with their efforts is tennis legend, Jimmy Connors. Here’s what he said.
Jimmy Connors slams Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff
In a recent podcast, Connors was discussing the results of the WTA Finals. When the host particularly asked about Gauff and Pegula and the fatigue of playing in a round-robin tournament, Connors replied, “Well, you know, it’s it. But here’s how I look at that. These kids are young kids, you know, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23 years old. And, and this, this is their business. This is their job.”

The eight-time Grand Slam champion further added, “Yeah, you know, and go and play. And don’t say you’re tired. Because if you’re tired, then don’t play. Yeah, you know, so, I mean, it’s it. But these, these kids have so many people around them now that they should know, you know, that’s what they pay them for.”
Connors has made some valid points here. What are your thoughts on the criticism of Connors?

Gauff ends her season with five straight losses
If we have an overall look at the stats of the 18-year-old in 2022, she has done amazingly well. However, the American suffered a slump in form later in the year. While we saw her making it to the French Open final and a quarterfinal run in the US Open, she faltered in her last few tournaments.
Gauff slipped to five straight defeats at the end of her season. The losing streak started with her loss in the quarterfinal of the Guadalajara Open. She crashed out after a hard-fought match against Victoria Azarenka. Up next, she featured in the WTA Finals and lost all three of her group stage matches in straight sets.

Further, the 18-year-old represented the USA in Billie Jean King Cup. Here she lost her only singles match against Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic. Although it was a disappointing end, we can’t rule out her consistency throughout the year. Hopefully, she will come back roaring in the 2023 season.
