Serena Williams has been focusing on expanding her biz career ever since she hanged her racket in 2022. Despite not being in action on the tennis court, she’s succeeded in keeping herself in the limelight. Her decision to have her own beauty brand, WYN (acronym for What You Need), has paid off quite well. It’s been making waves since launch earlier this year. Not to mention that it’s kept Serena extremely busy. Especially when it comes to promoting the brand for a global reach. However, the former World no.1 still manages not to forget one crucial thing amidst her tight schedule – being a caring mother.

Last year, Serena gave birth to her second child, Adira. Considering Adira’s still very young, Serena makes sure to keep a check on the baby, ensuring that she’s okay. Even if it means taking time off her professional duties. After all, she’s a mother first and then an entrepreneur. Serena Williams proved it yet again while doing an Instagram live for WYN’s promotion.

While focusing on her commitments towards the brand, she also reminded herself to get back to Adira after wrapping up the live session. “I’d also like to get back to my baby, because she naps at 3 o’clock,” she said during her Instagram live session. Moreover, she also said “we don’t spend a lot of time together”, implying how crucial it is for her to be with Adira. Simply because it’s been difficult for her lately to give adequate time to Adira because of a hectic schedule.

Coming back onto her ambitious brand itself, then it’s also personally close to Serena’s heart. But why so? It’s because WYN’s also got some of its inspiration from Serena’s elder daughter Olympia. Mother Serena revealed this detail in an interview earlier this year.

When Serena Williams talked about her duties and beauty

In an interaction with Essence, in October, Serena Williams talked about a lot of aspects of her life after retirement. Specifically speaking about her entrepreneurial journey with WYN, she revealed a lesser-known fact. Mentioning Olympia, she said that the motivation to start WYN actually came from her elder daughter. “When I pick Olympia up, or I’m at her school or volunteering—which I do all the way—I want to be able to do that and still look good,” she said.

For the unversed, WYN launched with 10 SKUs, in April, with matte lipsticks and tinted SPF. Furthermore, Serena ended up adding more products to the line, including the collection of lip glosses and lip liners.

Initially, when launching the brand, Serena had mentioned the true motive behind it. “You can be strong and beautiful at the same time.” said. Continuing further, she added, “Most of the time, you only see these athletes when they’re playing, and so they want to be able to present themselves the best way they can.” Following the launch, she even got a boost of confidence from none other than Kim Kardashian. The latter had shared Williams’ post featuring WYN’s beauty products in an Instagram story, with a caption containing two hearts. They clearly reflected Kim’s sweet gesture of admiration for Serena’s brand.
