“Oh my gosh, this one is so high up there, being Olympic gold champion, being Golden Slam champion in singles and doubles, that’s pretty awesome,” said a jubilant Serena Williams after dominating arch rival Maria Sharapova in the summit clash of 2012 London Olympics. The 23-time slam winner handed a bagel and a breadstick (6-0, 6-1) to the Russian pro. With that, she also completed a Golden Slam after accomplishing the Career Slam back in 2003, winning the Australian Open. But you know what? She also brought laurels to her country in the doubles category alongside sister Venus. Together, they clinched the gold in 2000 (Sydney), 2008 (Beijing) and then in London. And now, the 43-year-old, famed WTA legend has earned a special milestone for her unparalleled Olympics success for Team USA.
“Whether I win or lose, that’s not the big deal,” Williams said prior to her Olympics final against Sharapova in 2012, as reported by Tennis Channel in August 2020. Before going against the five-time slam winner, the American tennis icon wasn’t sure of winning and just wanted to give her best while ensuring a medal for her nation.
However, she couldn’t resist her happiness after eventually emerging victorious. “Hey, I did something nobody’s done. So I’m really excited about it. I haven’t even had time to think about it. I’m hungry right now—and I’ve got a doubles match that I’ve got to get serious for. We’ve got to do this. So, I don’t know.”

An official description from the US Olympic & Paralympic Committee’s website admired Williams. It hailed her as “one of the greatest tennis players in history. She ranks fifth in all-time career titles and boasts a remarkable 84% win percentage. Williams held the world No. 1 ranking in women’s singles for a total of 319 weeks, finishing as the year-end No. 1 on five occasions. The latest accomplishment comes less than a month after Serena received a prestigious honor from TIME magazine. Even after hanging up her racket over three years ago, the 43-year-old is still continuing her domination and how!
Serena Williams pulls off a ‘TIME’ triumph
Just weeks ago, Serena Williams was inducted into TIME magazine’s 2025 list of world’s 100 most influential people. She’s part of the list among fellow athletes like Simone Biles, Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier. Not to mention entertainment figures such as Demi Moore, Lorne Michaels, and Snoop Dogg.
“I’ve given my whole life to tennis, and I would gladly give another two years if I had time,” Williams reacted to the milestone, as reported by TIME magazine on April 16. “Whether it’s through her venture-capital fund that invests in companies founded by women and people of color, or joining the ownership group of the Toronto Tempo, a WNBA expansion team, or dancing during halftime at the Super Bowl, she continues to show that we, as athletes, are so far from one-dimensional,” read TIME’s article lauding her profile.

The description continued, “She doesn’t have to do any of this. She could take a break from being in the public eye and raise her family. Instead, she continues to pave the way. So many female athletes see ourselves in Serena. A win for her is a win for all of us.” But guess what? It’s not just her on-court success that keeps her in limelight. Even Serena’s fashionable side comes across as inevitable!
A week after receiving this honor, Williams attended the TIME100 gala. She was seen rubbing shoulders with the likes of Blake Lively, Snoop Dogg, Demi Moore, Ed Sheeran, and Scarlett Johansson. She donned a black dress for this occasion, with gloves to give an elegant appearance. Not to mention the diamond necklace, earrings, and a silver diamond watch. And this week, she stunned the world again, with her stylish Met Gala aura.
At the 2025 Met Gala, on Tuesday, in Metropolitan Museum of Art, in New York City, Williams wore a Moncler x EE72 ensemble by Edward Enninful. In simple words, she stunned in a silky sea foam gown. She paired it up with a lace panel that went from her backside to the floor. On her IG, Williams shared a series of photos featuring her Met Gala outfit and wrote, “For every dandy, there’s a gown.”
